Volunteer Opportunities
Teach us, good Lord, to serve you as you deserve:
to give, and not to count the cost,
to fight, and not to heed the wounds,
to toil, and not to seek for rest,
to labor, and not to ask for any reward,
save that of knowing that we do your will.
~ Ignatius of Loyola
The following are major volunteer short-term opportunities for the coming year. The Outreach Center can assist you or your small group, circle, etc. in identifying other opportunities. Contact The Rev. Mike Bradshaw at 723-4391, ext. 1502 or by email for further information or download a copy of the 2011-2012 Volunteer Opportunities Brochure (PDF).
Stop Hunger Now
Parish families and friends are invited to come to the church to help package easy-to-assemble dried meals for delivery around the world where survivors of tragic ordeals need free, easy-to-prepare food and other emergency supplies, to handle the crisis situations that have befallen them. St. Paul’s participants will work in an assembly-line fashion mixing, weighing, and bagging a dehydrated flavoring mix consisting of 21 essential vitamins with fortified rice-soy-vegetable products for nutritious meals so that adults and children will not go hungry. More details coming soon!
This is an excellent project to address Millennium Development Goal One: To eradicate extreme poverty and hunger.

A significant portion of these funds was used locally for research, professional education, and advocacy. Heart disease and stroke are our Nation's No. 1 and No. 3 killers claiming more than 910,000 American lives a year. Come join our team to help each of our own families live stronger and longer lives. Mississippi Mission Trip
Camp Coast Care is located on the campus of Coast Episcopal School at 5065 Espy Avenue, Long Beach, MS. Since the first days after Hurricane Katrina, they have offered help to survivors in the form of a distribution center for food, cleaning supplies, personal hygiene products, clothing and free medical services. Camp Coast Care has also hosted thousands of volunteers from all over the world who have come to rebuild lives, homes and communities.
St. Paul's went to Mississippi in 2009. The focus of that week was working on individual homes doing a variety of jobs including sheetrock installation, carpentry, roofing, plumbing, etc. Volunteer workcrews were composed of individuals with all levels of skill. There was also on-campus jobs for volunteers that are vital to camp life including intake, kitchen and dining room assistants, facility and grounds maintenance, data entry, and general office work.

Costa Rica Mission Partnership Trip
The Diocese of North Carolina has long enjoyed a strong relationship with the Diocese of Costa Rica. In December of 2005, our Diocese entered its second five-year commitment with the people and parishes of this lovely and hospitable country. In August of 2007, 35 members of St. Paul's traveled to Costa Rica and in June of 2008, 41 members of St. Paul's again traveled to Costa Rica to join in the on-going service and friendship with Costa Rica's Bishop Hector Monterroso, his clergy, staff and welcoming people. Together, NC parishes are actively helping to build the Episcopal Church in Costa Rica by addressing health care needs, daycare and education needs, church maintenance and new church planting.
St. Paul's will have both youth and adult mission teams serving Costa Rica in 2011. Our teams will work at Heredia, constructing a day care for impoverished women and their children. The goal of each project is to bring new energy and hope to the people and congregations of Costa Rica. More details coming soon!
