St. Francis Fellowship

"How rare it is, how lovely, this fellowship of those who meet together!” — Psalm 133, v. 1

The St. Francis Fellowship is a group of St. Paul’s parishioners—both men and women—best known as St. Paul’s Gardeners. Some of us garden, but all of us enjoy being together to learn about God’s Creation and to share what we learn with St. Paul’s. In 2006 we sponsored the Piedmont Land Conservancy’s photographic exhibit at St. Paul’s and brought in speakers from the Conservancy and North Carolina’s Land for Tomorrow initiative. We care for the Paradise/Herb Garden and the St. Francis Courtyard along Pilot View Street, as well as other areas of the church grounds.

Through special projects, we bring the miracle of God’s Creation to the parish:

  • At Easter we collect and give away fresh flowers and herbs before each service so that every person coming to St. Paul’s can flower the cross for the altar (if you have some to share we’d love to have them!).
  • Near Holy Hildegard’s Day (September 17), we co-sponsor with the Music Department the choral service celebrating Holy Hildegard, making wreaths of herbs and dried flowers for the Chapel and sponsoring a reception in the Cloister.
  • At Advent we co-sponsor the Advent Event – so that every family in the parish can make an evergreen wreath as a reminder of the coming of the King of all Creation.
  • At Christmas we decorate St. Paul’s Nave with branches of magnolia and pine.

We invite you to join us!
