Cub Scout Troop 910Members of Cub Scout Pack 910 of St. Paul's Episcopal Church present the flag from the original Pack 10 chartered in 1936 to Ken Badgett of the Old Hickory Council Historical Association/Raven Knob Museum. Joining the members of Den 7 Dragon Patrol are Marvin Ferrell, a member of the original Pack 10 (far left) and Dave Rosario, cubmaster of Pack 910 (far right). The presentation was part of Pack 910's recent Blue & Gold banquet where members of Den 7 participated in a Crossover ceremony to Boy Scouts. Pack 910 is the oldest Cub Scout pack in Winston-Salem.

While in Cub Scouts, boys grow and mature, gaining skills and knowledge plus the self-confidence that comes with the Cub Scouting experience. For the boys, it is mostly about FUN through den activities with their peers and pack events like the Parent-Son Camporee, Virginia Creeper Bike Ride, Fort Bragg and USS Yorktown trips, Fall Hike and Hot Dog Roast, Pack-Inn, Pinewood Derby, Ice Skating, Skiing, Blue & Gold Banquet, Sleepovers at the NC Zoo and SciWorks, Family Camping, Annual Picnic and Summer Residence and Day Camps.

For the 2008–2009 year, Pack enrollment was 56 boys. Cub Pack 910 has been blessed to have more than 20 volunteer adult leaders and the active involvement of parents from both inside and outside the Parish. At this time the majority of our Cub Scouts come from families from outside the St. Paul’s community (approximately 75%). Pack 910 therefore serves as both outreach to the community and an opportunity to welcome new families to St. Paul’s.

The national Cub Scouting program, formed as a part of Boy Scouts of America in 1930, seeks to develop and foster caring, nurturing relationships between boys ages 7-11(first through fifth grades) and their parents, adult leaders, and friends.

Cub Scouting at St. Paul’s has the following purposes:

• To positively influence character development and encourage spiritual growth

• To help boys develop habits and attitudes of good citizenship

• To encourage responsibility, good sportsmanship and pride in growing strong in mind and body

• To improve understanding within the family

• To strengthen boys’ ability to get along with other boys and respect other people

• To foster a sense of personal achievement by helping boys develop new interests and skills

• To show how to be helpful and do one’s best

• To provide fun and exciting new things to do

• To prepare boys to become Boy Scouts
