The Samaritan Inn provides shelter for homeless men in Winston-Salem on a year-round basis. Throughout the year, area churches provide volunteers who serve the needs of the Samaritan Inn’s guests. The first ten nights in November, St. Paul’s is called upon to provide six volunteers each night. Individuals and different St. Paul's groups volunteer for this overnight commitment. Volunteers are asked to assist with preparation of the evening’s meal or to help check in guests for the night. Prior to lights out, a short devotional service is held. Typically, each volunteer is asked to take a two-hour shift during the night. In the morning, those volunteers who assisted with dinner assist with breakfast preparation and cleanup. Those who helped with check in help with check out.

In St. Paul’s Mission Statement we are asked “to bring people to unity with God and each other; to bear witness to the good news of Jesus Christ through the loving, healing, and welcoming power of the Holy Spirit; and to minister daily to our neighborhoods.” Volunteering at the Samaritan Inn certainly fits the mission.
