  • Librarians Needed!
St. Paul's wonderful library is in great need of people with library training or experience!  As it nears 4,000 volumes and expands to other media, it needs the attention of people trained in all aspects of circulation, accessioning, cataloguing, and other management.  Please come help our very small staff keep this fabulous resource in good running order for our parish!  Call Stephanie Lovett (722-9334) or Louise Gossett (759-2597).
  • It's Time to Donate More Greenpoints!
Parishioners were very generous in donating Lowe’s greenpoints to St. Paul’s during the past three years and we need you to donate again. Lowe’s requires that you donate at least 3,000 points or more at one time. You can donate on line at www.greenpoints.com or by calling 1-800-311-2117. The St. Paul’s account number is 4202 2207 8821. In the past we have been able to buy sheets, pillows, coffee makers, pots and pans, slow cookers, towel sets, bedspreads and much more to furnish the two apartments at St. Paul’s Place to Stay. After a year and a half of continuous use, we need to replace some items and restock others. We also can buy some of the items that Denise needs in the church’s kitchen to help keep it restocked. Measuring cups, spoons and pot holders regularly disappear in our busy kitchen. Thanks for helping our church by donating your greenpoints!

  • Be a Reception Desk Volunteer!
Are you willing to give a few hours of your time to answer the phone in the church office?  No experience necessary!  A friendly smile is the only requirement.  All you have to do is sit at the reception desk and answer the phone.  It's as easy as that!  We have an immediate need for Tuesdays from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m.  Please call the church office at 723-4391 and speak to John Markle if you are interested.
  • Calling all Shutterbugs
Please consider volunteering your rime and talent as our family photographer.  We need several volunteers to take pictures at St. Paul's events to update our website and brochures.  We even have a camera you can use!  Please contact Tara Pemble, Communications Coordinator at 723-4391 or E-mail for more information.

Meets in the Conference Room on the 2nd Floor at 9:00 a.m.  Corey Miller will lead a Bible study that offers an engaging way to consider the spiritual life. John Ortberg’s The Life You Always Wanted brings new life to spiritual disciplines that help us grow in our walk of discipleship. Through humor, relevance, and creativity, this discussion-based study will offer meaningful interaction no matter where you are in your spiritual journey. You’re invited for all sessions—but there is summer flexibility built in. Come when your schedule allows. (Dates: July 13, August 3, 10, 17, 24.) Childcare is available upon request. Please contact Betsy Bost at 723-4391 if you would like to sign up for childcare.
  • Ninth Grade Confirmation Class This Fall
Plans are well underway for a wonderful confirmation year at St. Paul's beginning this fall.  Keep an eye out for announcements about an August informational meeting, when our teaching team will share details about a new program we're using, called CnC, which stands for "Confirm, Not Conform."  CnC is an engaging curriculum that takes an innovative approach to helping young people build their own spiritual lives and take responsibility for their faith and its power.  Parents and Youth:  Hold the date for our first class field trip to UNCG's TeamQuest Experiential Campus at PIney Lake:  Saturday,  September 6, from noon until 5:30 p.m.  The cost will be $35 per participant.  The first Sunday morning class meeting will be Sunday, September 14.
  • EfM:  Education for Ministry Registration
Now is the time to think about signing up for Education for Ministry, affectionately known as "EfM."  EfM is a four year program sponsored by the School of Theology at the University of the South (Sewanee, TN).  Students study the Old and New Testaments, church history and theology, and work together to discern where and how God calls them to action.  New first year students are being enrolled and a brand new daytime group will begin meeting this fall, shortly after Labor Day.  An orientation meeting will be held during the week of August 17 and enrollment and payment will be due by August 27.  If you have ever wondered if EfM might be right for you, or if you just want more information, call Marjorie Northup (748-0674), Stacy Holley (202-9472), or Chip Morgan (724-1843).
  • Sign Up for a Small Group
Stop by our table following the 8:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m. services on August 24 and August 31 or at the Parish Fair on September 7 to learn more about small groups at St. Paul's.  The new semester begins the week of September 14.  Come be a part of a group which intentionally gathers as a family of believers to build community and grow together in faith through study, prayer and fellowship.  Can't wait to see you!  Contact Lyndsay Foster, Small Group Coordinator at 723-4391, ext 520 or
    E-mail for additional details.
  • Safe Church Training - September 10
Safeguarding Our Children is offered on Wednesday, September 10 in Colhoun B from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.  The Rev. Jamie L'Enfant facilitates this course which is designed to help St. Paul's volunteers and staff create safe spaces for children and their caregivers.  Past participants report that the program contains very useful information, and is thought-provoking and challenging.  Sunday School volunteers, church staff and youth workers (including those who chaperone youth on overnight trips) are required to complete this course.
St. Paul's staff members are additionally required to complete a course on adult sexual harassment prevention, offered on September 10 from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m.
Space is limited in both courses to allow for effective discussion.  Sign up to attend and make a dinner/childcare reservation by contacting Stacy Holley by E-mail or calling the church office for more information at 723-4391.  Please note that due to the nature of the information presented, we cannot admit late arrivals.

Other Announcements and Offerings
  • Sign Up for Our Fellowship Dinners
Fellowship Dinners (Foyers) will begin again next month.  Small groups of 10 to 12 parishioners meet monthly, usually on Sunday evening, in each other's homes for a simple meal (usually potluck) and fellowship.  These groups have no agenda and are intended solely for friendship and fellowship.   We especially urge newcomers to join us as this is a good way to meet other people in the Church.  All are welcome - singles or couples who do not have space to host may join forces with others in the group whin it is their turn.  If you would like to join a fellowship group for this year, please contact Hennie Holoman (760-9800) or Teresa Kennedy (945-0308).
  • Monthly Dinner Group Survey
We are taking a survey of how many people would be interested in a dinner group that would meet once a month at a restaurant.  These groups would consist of six people who would decide among themselves where they will meet, possibly in conjunction with an event, for fellowship and fun.  For more information call Hennie Holoman (760-9800) or Teresa Kennedy (945-0308).
  • Grief Counseling Available
Have you lost a spouse, a parent or a child? The Hospice and Palliative Care Center offers both group and individual grief counseling for death-related loss free of charge from licensed professionals. This counseling is available for children, teens and adults. There are also support groups for survivors of suicide and caregivers. Most groups begin in early February. Please contact the Center at 768-3972 for more information or to enroll.
  • St. Paul’s Heritage: Place Yourself on the Timeline
The first phase of St. Paul's transition process is to look back at our rich heritage. One tool for reviewing our heritage is to develop a timeline for our church. We are asking every member of St. Paul's to help create our timeline. You are each encouraged to take part in this process by recording your own history. This recently-installed timeline is on the wall on the third floor of the new building outside the Chapel. Please write your name and the name of a family member on stickers provided, then place the stickers on the year in which you or your loved one joined St. Paul's or were baptized, confirmed, married, died or ordained at St. Paul's. There is a different color sticker for each event. Thanks for participating in our transition process.
  • Summer Choir
For June and July, Summer Choir rehearsals will begin in the Choir Room each Sunday morning at 8:30 a.m. sharp.  Each week we will not only rehearse the anthem(s) for the Sunday at hand, but also the anthem for the following Sunday as well.  We will then move to the Nave around 9:00 to rehearse that Sunday's anthem and service music with the organ.
Please feel free to vest prior to the 8:15 rehearsal.  Our dedicated Music Assistant, Carol Covington, will be all too happy to help you find a robe and a music cubby assignment.  Let's fill the choir stalls on each Sunday in June and July!
  • Sunday Morning Childcare Notes
On May 25, we switch over to our summer schedule with services at 8:00 and 10:00 a.m.  Childcare will be offered beginning at 9:45 a.m. in the following locations in the Preschool area:  Room 112 - Infants, Toddlers, and Twos; Room 232 - Threes and Fours (Pre-K); (Kindergarten/Rising First Graders join their parents in church).  We need volunteers throughout the Summer!  Please contact Betsy Bost at 723-4391 or via e-mail if you can sign up for one or more Sundays.
  • We Welcome Corey Miller as Part of Our Teaching Team!
Corey Miller will join our teaching team at St. Paul's.  Corey grew up here in Winston-Salem and was a member at St. Paul's for several years.  His Episcopalian roots continued to grow at Sewanee, where he completed his undergraduate studies.  Corey's an ordained United Methodist minister, receiving his Master's in Divinity at Duke, and his Doctor of Ministry at Drew University.  He served 13 years in the local parish, most recently at Maple Springs United Methodist Church in Winston-Salem, before moving into work in the non-profit sector.  He's the Executive Director of Smart Start of Davie County, an organization that focuses on supporting and developing quality early education in North Carolina.  Corey's wife is Beth, a medical physicist who works at Forsyth Regional Cancer Center.  Their son, Caldwell, is 10 and is concluding the fourth grade at Forsyth County Day School.
