Lectors
The Lector's Guild of St. Paul's consists of approximately 65 dedicated parishioners who read the Old and New Testament Lessons and/or Prayers of the People as prescribed in the Lectionary of the Book of Common Prayer at Sunday services and at special services held throughout the year.
Lectors are invited to participate in weekly services of their choice to read the lessons. When a Lector takes his/her place at the lectern to read, the mission is to be the voice of the Prophets and to procalim the message of the scriptures. The Lector strives to re-create, from the words of the Bible, the atmosphere and excitement of the day they were first written.
Lectors are assinged in rotation for the following services:
Sunday, 9:00 a.m. Holy Eucharist: Old Testament Lesson and Prayers of the People
Sunday, 11:15 a.m. Holy Eucharist: Old Testament Lesson, Epistle, and Prayers of the People
Sunday, 9:00 a.m. Morning Prayer: Old Testament Lesson and Gospel
Sunday 11:15 a.m. Morning Prayer: Old Testament Lesson and Epistle
Special Services in Lent and Advent: Evensong
The rotation schedules each Lector to read approximately once every 6 to 10 weeks. A schedule of assignments is distrigbuted in advance of the scheduled readings, typically on a 60-day sycle. The church office mails reminder notices and copies of the readings to Lectors during the week in which thay are scheduled.
