Blood Drive
October 28, 2011
9:00 a.m. - 1:30 p.m.
Now it's more convenient than ever to save lives by donating blood right in you own Church. Walk-ins are welcome or you can make an appointment (which helps our planning). To make an appointment please contact Mike Bradshaw at 723-4391, ext. 511.
We need six volunteers to work one of three two-hour-shifts that day beginning at 8:30 and running until 2:30. Volunteers will work in the Canteen and at the registration table. Call the Outreach Office at 723-4391, ext 510.
The Blood Drive is held twice a year on Good Friday and the Friday closest to All Saint's Day. The goal is usually 35 units, but we are always trying to increase that number. Volunteers provide time and food to help the drive run smoothly. This is a great way to give a little of yourself and your time on a short term basis. Please consider giving to help the Blood Drive increase its goal year to year, and know that you may be saving a life in the process.
Did you know?
- 4.5 million Americans would die each year without life saving blood transfusions. Every three seconds someone needs blood.
- Just one pint of donated blood can help save as many as three people's lives.
- The average adult has 10 pints of blood in his or her body. Blood makes up about 7% of your body's weight. A newborn baby has about one cup of blood in his or her body.
- Shortages of all types of blood ocur during the summer and winter holidays.
- Blood donation takes four steps: medical history, quick physical, donation, and snacks. The actual blood donation usually takes less than 10 minutes. The entire process, from when you sign in to the time you leave, takes about 45 minutes.
- Females receive 53% of blood transfused; males receive 47%.
- Since a pint is a pound, you lose a pound every time you donate blood! Wa-hoo! Have some ice cream!
