Baptisms at St. Paul's

“For in Christ Jesus, you are all children of God through faith. As many of you as were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ. There is no longer Jew or Greek, there is no longer slave or free, there is no longer male or female; for all of you are one in Christ Jesus.”   Galatians 3: 26-28.

Baptism
Baptism is one of the fundamental sacraments of the Christian faith. "Holy Baptism is the sacrament by which God adopts us as his children and makes us members of Christ's Body, the Church, and inheritors of the kingdom of God." (Book of Common Prayer) Baptism initiates people, by water and the Holy Spirit, into the Body of Christ. We baptize both adults and infants. We regard the sacrament of baptism as a Holy Mystery, which means we can understand the meaning of the act without ever fully fathoming the depths of its significance.

St. Paul’s joyfully welcomes new members into the Body of our Lord Jesus Christ through the sacrament of Holy Baptism. Baptism is incorporated into regular worship services on during the year. Because baptism is the outward and visible action that connects a person to God in a covenant relationship, we baptize in public worship it belongs in public worship in the presence of the gathered church family, rather than private ceremony. The service follows the baptism service in the Book of Common Prayer, which begins on page 299. To prepare for baptism, we ask that adults and older children seeking to be baptized, the parents of children to be baptized, and sponsors or godparents of candidates, attend a preparation class on the Saturday immediately preceding baptism.
